Is 50 the new 30? Let’s explore that a bit…

Alright, so we now know that I’ve started “Testosterone Replacement Therapy” through Royal Mens Medical Center. Let’s take a few and talk about Testosterone.

What is it? Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. It is found in mammals, reptiles, birds and other vertebrates.  It is secreted by the testicles in males and the ovaries in females, but the adrenal glands also play a small part in its production. It’s responsible for the development of the male reproductive tissue and it also helps with characteristics such as muscle development, bone mass/density and growth of body hair.  It is also necessary for general health and well-being as well as the prevention of osteoporosis.  The anabolic effects of testosterone (test) deal with muscle growth while the the androgenic effects are reflected in our voices as well as beards and other body hair.  It is of note that women also have and need testosterone in their systems as well, but in much smaller amounts that help with mood and sexual desire among other things.

DumbellsI begin this article, a bit differently than I would my “political or patriotic” rants (although I’m no less passionate about this topic). It’s more of a journal for young and old alike (mainly men), who have that “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome” type mentality. For most civilians, we’ve heard this phrase spouted from the lips of some “Jarhead”, but I’m here to tell you… it truly finds it’s roots deeply embedded within the psyche of a winner.

Now you may be asking yourself; what the hell is he talking about?” Physical Fitness; two words that most adult males have absolutely no time for! Well let me tell you… If you you don’t find a way to make time for it, you WILL lose it. So this article and those that will follow, serve to be a journal of my experience and experiment with physical fitness after “youth”. The why it’s so important, as well as how it’s possible to do, without becoming a lifetime member of the “gym rat” club.
